Last night’s big story was the beating the San Jose Sharks put on the New York Rangers (9-2) and a large part was thanks to rookie Tomas Hertl. After only his third game in the NHL, Hertl put on a show for the fans of San Jose, potting four goals! What’s even crazier is how he scored his fourth goal: blew past defenseman Michael Del Zotto for the break-away and putting the puck between his legs and making Martin Biron look silly as he tucked the puck in over his shoulder. Hertl is the youngest player to score four goals in one game since March 30, 1988. He has six goals and one assist in his first three games.
