Blockbuster deal between Islanders and Sabres

The New York Islanders have traded Matt Moulson, a 2014 first round pick and a 2015 second round pick to the Buffalo Sabres for Thomas Vanek. Moulson has six goals and nine points in eleven games while Vanek has four goals and nine points in thirteen games. I don’t understand what the Islanders were thinking with this trade. Thomas Vanek is going to be an unrestricted free agent this coming off season. Moulson, on the other hand, is a consistent 30 goal scorer who has proven chemistry with John Tavares. Also the Islanders gave up a first and second round pick with Moulson. I wouldn’t give up Moulson for Vanek, let alone two high picks. Islanders are going to look back negatively at this trade. Better hope Vanek decides to stay in long island for more than the 2013-2014 year.
